===== Overview =====The Masdrinyovka is Emberstone’s standard model of modular apartment housing, commissioned under King Masdrin De’Endar. Though designed by engineers rather than Masdrin himself, they were created to his mandate: rapidly constructible, durable, and dignified homes that never reduce their residents to statistics.

Masdrinyovkas are one of the most recognizable symbols of Emberstonian life. Built in cities, towns, Homestead Estates, and even on noble domains, they provide the baseline standard of living for citizens of every background. Their identity is tied to Reikan immigration during the Industrial War, when refugees, veterans, and their families were granted fast-tracked citizenship, housing, and a national dividend share. In their own tongue, they called these buildings Masdrinyovkas — “Masdrin’s communities.” The name endured and became universal.

===== Purpose =====Masdrinyovkas were created to provide practical, affordable, and respectable housing en masse. They were conceived as permanent homes, not shelters or halfway houses, and never as punishment. The design philosophy was not to “cram as many people as possible” but to house people the best way possible, even when building at scale.

===== Physical Features =====Masdrinyovkas vary in scale but share common design principles:

ScaleGenerally three stories on estates and five in cities, though height is always adapted to the needs of the site and the builder.

Materials and SystemConstructed with brick, stone, and prefabricated ornamental panels. Where Felderian housing blocks relied on only a handful of uniform pieces, Masdrinyovkas use dozens: walls with varied window and door forms, multiple balcony and bay options, rooflines, cornices, and ornamental facings. Even when a Patron or Matron builds several side by side, each block looks distinct while unmistakably belonging to the same system.

ApartmentsUnits range from bachelor flats to three-room apartments. Every unit includes a balcony or garden-level door, a proper kitchen and bath, high ceilings, and large windows. Even the smallest is considered “company-worthy.”

CourtyardsAlways green, shaded, and centered on a fountain. Courtyards serve as social and recreational spaces as well as practical water sources in early builds.

Ground FloorsReserved for essential shops such as bakeries, groceries, tailors, and cobblers. Each Masdrinyovka is built to function as a self-contained community hub.

===== Construction & Assembly =====Early Masdrinyovkas required extensive masonry and carpentry. By the Post–Five-Year War era, prefabrication and logistics technology transformed the process.

Panels were manufactured in workshops and delivered in mixed loads to avoid monotonous façades. Steel or reinforced stone frames were erected first, then panels were lifted into place and bolted to the structure. The advent of Gen-2 SHTRAWs (Super Hauler Tandem Rotor Aircraft) made this possible even in remote locations. Trucks hauled in bulk where roads existed; SHTRAWs ferried loads in piece by piece where they did not.

In ideal conditions, a three-story Masdrinyovka could be assembled in about three weeks once foundations and stockpiles were ready. Interiors — wood floors, tiled kitchens and baths, cabinetry — were still completed by local craftsmen, ensuring quality and individuality rather than disposable sameness.

===== Logistics and Limitations =====The often-quoted “three weeks” applies to assembly alone. Total project time depends on panel production, transportation, site access, and weather. Remote builds without road links rely heavily on SHTRAW rotations, adding cost and delay.

Because of this, building a Masdrinyovka usually also meant building infrastructure. Roads, wells, and staging grounds were planned in parallel. A Masdrinyovka was never an isolated block dropped from the sky — it was a logistical anchor around which other systems would follow.

===== Atmosphere and Aesthetic =====Masdrinyovkas are designed to be lived in, not merely occupied.

Exterior: wrought-iron balconies, bay windows, tiled roofs, and cornices. While modular, they avoid monotony by drawing from a large catalog of pieces.

Interior: wood or tile flooring, high ceilings, generous natural light, and clean but dignified ornament.

Community Life: courtyards filled with children at play, balconies draped with rugs, flowers, or banners, shops open at the street level. From the first day, a Masdrinyovka looks like a lived-in community rather than a sterile block.

===== Cultural Role =====The Masdrinyovka is the most visible cross-section of Emberstone’s mosaic society. Within the same walls live Reikans, Oakenbrid Dwarves, Shore Elves, and Emberstonians of every trade.

For the young: a respectable starter home, affordable and central.

For the old: a chosen community, easier than a manor or private house but still dignified.

For nobles: Patrons and Matrons often begin with Masdrinyovkas. Their first act is to build one with a penthouse suite atop, housing themselves and their people together before any manor is raised.

Masdrinyovkas carry no stigma. They are not “poor blocks” or charity housing but baseline respectability. Where Felderian housing blocks are seen as lifeless and anonymous, Emberstonians take pride in theirs.

A common saying captures this:“Ah, you’re in a Masdrinyovka? Solid choice. Cheap enough to afford, fine enough to bring your mother-in-law.”

===== Historical Eras =====Foundations Era (pre-electrification):Built with Tahir Galeb’s biofuel system. Running water in larger towns; courtyards with wells elsewhere.

Industrial War Era:Electrification and plumbing become standard. Height patterns settle into three-story estates and five-story city builds. Large immigration waves; Reikans coin the term Masdrinyovka.

Five-Year War Era:Reinforced standards, uniform kitchens and baths, longest-lived stock. Courtyards and social spaces emphasized. Many still standing.

Contemporary Era:Powered by Amperion. Smart-home integration, adaptive wiring, personal comms and security, Lantern civic hubs. Prefab upgrade paths for modernization.

===== Role as Logistic Anchor =====A Masdrinyovka is usually the first stake in the ground. It houses people immediately, opens shops, and secures water. From that base, farms, workshops, and roads follow. Clusters of two or three, with linked courtyards, naturally grow into new villages or urban districts.

===== Nobles and Early Development =====For newly elevated Patrons or Matrons, building a Masdrinyovka first is both practical and symbolic. It provides shelter and commerce for their retainers while signaling restraint and solidarity. A manor can follow later; the first Masdrinyovka usually remains as a lasting emblem of their beginnings.
