Xareth Kestra is the commander of Masdrin De'Endar's personal Shadow Team, informally designated Shadow Zero. He serves as the surface counterpart to Durdrin’s legendary Shadow One and is widely considered one of the most discreet and surgically efficient operators in Emberstone’s military-intelligence structure.

Xareth operates with full discretionary authority under Masdrin's command. His unit, though not officially designated, is referred to as Shadow Zero—emphasizing its foundational role and elite status. Xareth is renowned for his tactical composure, minimalist communication, and unwavering loyalty.

House Kestra was originally the 13th house of Felynafay, holding control over one of the city’s twenty noble yards. During the events of The Unfortunate Decision, while most houses turned against Durdrin and attempted a coordinated coup, House Kestra remained loyal to the Company. Though they were not present during the internal fighting, they arrived at the compound after the purge began and helped secure its perimeter.

Their loyalty was not forgotten. After the dust settled and the traitorous houses were purged, House Kestra was elevated to the Ruling Council, rising from 13th to 3rd house overall—a direct reward for standing with Durdrin when it mattered most.

This elevation positioned them among the most powerful surviving houses in the city. As a further show of trust, Tareth Kestra and his son Xareth took on the task guarding Durdrin during his recovery, personally ensuring that no one disturbed him. One of them remained outside the chamber at all times.

During the coordinated coup against Durdrin, House Kestra did not participate in the betrayal. By the time Tareth, Xareth, and their forces reached the compound, the internal fighting was already over and Durdrin—transformed into his draconic form, Dréoliatreksadurdrin—had begun razing Felynafay in retaliation.

House Kestra immediately secured the compound, establishing a defensive perimeter. When Durdrin returned to recover, Xareth and Tareth personally ensured he was undisturbed and unharmed.

Xareth was reassigned to the surface following the purge to serve directly under Masdrin De’Endar. His team is responsible for close-protection, counterintelligence, and direct execution of Masdrin’s domestic directives. Shadow Zero is the highest-tier personal security unit in the Emberstonian structure, answering only to Masdrin.

Xareth is calm, severe, and precise. He speaks rarely and wastes no words. Though not antisocial, he exhibits no warmth beyond what duty requires. His loyalty is absolute, and his attention to detail—whether in security, execution, or intelligence relay—is unmatched.

He wears crimson-lensed glasses with a gold bridge, not as tactical gear, but as part of his personal aesthetic. Combined with his refined attire, this gives him a composed and uniquely recognizable presence among Emberstone’s elite.
